Yin Yoga Teacher Training (200 hr RYT)

'Dive deep into the physical and energetic anatomy of the body'

Unlock a new dimension of your practice and develop the skills to lead and inspire in our Yagoy 200-hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training. In Yin Yoga, we observe the Yoga asana practice through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Meridian System, targeting the skeletal and connective tissues of the body to explore the movement of energy. The poses may seem familiar from other Yoga practices, but we approach each asana from the sensation. Rather than focusing on how a pose looks, we explore the experience it brings.

In this training, you will learn how to hold an inclusive and empathetic space and offer informed options for students to find their individual expression of the practice. Through the study of functional anatomy and skeletal variation, you will see how the practice can be adapted for a wide range of students. Learn to lead with confidence and compassion, and see how these skills can translate to every area of your life.

But our exploration doesn’t stop there. We also delve into the traditional Indian energetic model of the body, including the chakras, examining how each represents a unique set of qualities that our practice can develop, enhance, or release; we will investigate traditional Yoga philosophy through the Bhagavad Gita; and we will invite leading teachers to present Masterclasses in their areas of expertise. This holistic approach to Yin yoga and personal development empowers you to lead with authenticity and depth, both on and off the mat.

Teaching faculty

This Teacher Training is led by Shari Iskandar and Jonas Nathan. They are honoured and excited to guide you through this process of transformation and learning. Also, several guest teachers with their own expertise will teach themed workshops over the course of the training.

Shari Iskandar

When Shari started practicing yoga in her early 20s, she practiced the more dynamic styles of yoga on and off. It was the discovery of yin yoga yoga a few years later that made yoga such an important part of her life. She was the type that always expected a lot of herself, she studied Econometrics and worked for different startup companies, which caused a lot of stress. That combined with a stressful family situation, she ended up having a burn out. Luckily that was the time that yin yoga crossed her path. It helped her immensely to connect with her body again and guided her back to a peaceful state of mind.

Shari decided to fully follow her heart and share her love for Yin Yoga. Next to the Yin Yoga trainings, she studied (and practiced) Chinese Medicine, Meditation, Ayurveda, Kinesiology, Hatha, Chakras, Yoga Philosophy, Coaching, and Reiki. Shari’s path of learning is ongoing and is currently studying to become certified as an Acupuncturist.

Practicing yoga and meditation is such a powerful, healing gift to herself and she loves to share this with others. She combines all the knowledge and philosophies that helped her so much, in an easy and accessible way. In her classes, she focuses on embracing the softness and the yin qualities in your life. She invites you to be soft and gentle towards your body and mind, to be present with what is right now, and to let go of what you no longer need in your life.

Jonas Nathan

Jonas was born in Australia and spent his first few years in Asia. Living in countries like Nepal and connecting with the people and their rituals showed him at an early age that there is a spiritual connection within the universe. In his upbringing, he missed the root of life, which resulted in an excessive lifestyle where he lost the connection with himself. In his late 20’s he was ready to change and to let go of what he thought was so important, which helped him open up to a new truth: Yoga.

It was especially Yin Yoga that started to change his inner world. He was in love after his first training and it gave him an understanding of how he could work on himself. He started to feel the ground under his feet again and open up to life again in a loving way. It is simply this gift that he received, that he wants to share with others.

He has worked with many teachers, on and off the mat. The core yin philosophy is the Paul Grilley method and he completed the 300-hour specialized Yin training with Jo Phee (Chinese Medicine, Acupressure, Myofascial Release, Yin Yang and Qi Gong). Next to that, he studied (and practiced) many hours of Yoga Philosophy, Chakra Meditation, Ayurveda and Martial Arts.

Jonas believes that yoga should be for everybody. He is trained to find a pose that is perfect for your body, no matter how flexible or inflexible you are. Yoga is not a series of postures that we execute, but rather exploring the possibilities of how to open, stretch and stimulate your body.

With his Yin classes, he gives you the time and space to bring awareness to the areas that deserve some attention. He finds that the body is a very accessible way to work on yourself. The goal is to move and harmonize the chi in the body. In the end we just all want to feel good and he believes we can only be truly happy when we find harmony in body and mind.

Shari and Jonas crossed hearts during their first yin training. Both went through their own process at the time, and this is the reason most people start Yoga. The love for Yin Yoga created a path and slowly brought them together. Practicing together and studying yin yoga and spirituality became a big part of their day-to-day life. They found each other in a space where they could be themselves and stimulate each other to grow. They strongly believe that a relationship can only work when both are working on themselves. At a certain point, the sun was shining and they welcomed new life into this world, first their daughter Uma and a few years later their son Iggy. Setting an example of how a relationship can be they decided to work together and express their love for Yin Yoga. This is how they gave life to this 200-hour Yin Yoga teacher training.

Curriculum

In this Yin Yoga Teacher Training program, we build a strong understanding of the body by studying the anatomy of the physical body. Next to anatomy, this training illustrates how the meridian system unites all parts of the body into an integrated energetic net of fascia. The chakras are presented as the coordinating centers of the meridian system and as doorways to higher consciousness. With this knowledge, you will be able to create personalized and therapeutic yin yoga classes suited for everyone’s physical and energetic needs.

“The backbone of the yin yoga teacher training is anatomy because, without an understanding of muscles and joints, true confidence in teaching is elusive. This anatomical insight is crucial when dealing with injuries, contraindications, and the logic of adjustments and variations. Anatomy is a vast subject but the basics, properly understood, clarifies and simplifies all yoga practice, regardless of style.” – Paul Grilley
