Yin Yoga Teacher Training (200 hr RYT)

'Dive deep into the physical and energetic anatomy of the body'

Unlock a new dimension of your practice and develop the skills to lead and inspire in our Yagoy 200-hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training. In Yin Yoga, we observe the Yoga asana practice through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Meridian System, targeting the skeletal and connective tissues of the body to explore the movement of energy. The poses may seem familiar from other Yoga practices, but we approach each asana from the sensation. Rather than focusing on how a pose looks, we explore the experience it brings.

In this training, you will learn how to hold an inclusive and empathetic space and offer informed options for students to find their individual expression of the practice. Through the study of functional anatomy and skeletal variation, you will see how the practice can be adapted for a wide range of students. Learn to lead with confidence and compassion, and see how these skills can translate to every area of your life.

But our exploration doesn’t stop there. We also delve into the traditional Indian energetic model of the body, including the chakras, examining how each represents a unique set of qualities that our practice can develop, enhance, or release; we will investigate traditional Yoga philosophy through the Bhagavad Gita; and we will invite leading teachers to present Masterclasses in their areas of expertise. This holistic approach to Yin yoga and personal development empowers you to lead with authenticity and depth, both on and off the mat.

Teaching faculty

This Teacher Training is led by Shari Iskandar and Jonas Nathan. They are honoured and excited to guide you through this process of transformation and learning. Also, several guest teachers with their own expertise will teach themed workshops over the course of the training.

Shari Iskandar

In her early twenties, Shari began her Yoga journey with exploring the more dynamic styles of Yoga. At that time she was the type that always expected a lot of herself, she studied Econometrics
and worked for different startup companies. The ensuing stress, compounded by familial challenges, eventually led to burnout. However, the discovery of Yin Yoga was a transformative
turning point. This gentle yet profound practice became an anchor in Shari’s healing journey, reconnecting her with her body and guiding her back to a peaceful state of mind.

Yin yoga became not only a practice, but a cornerstone of her lifestyle, initiating the spark to dive deeper into the teachings. Inspired to share this gift of healing, she embarked on the path to
become a Yin Yoga teacher. She’s continuously expanding her knowledge through immersive studies in Meditation, Ayurveda, Hatha Yoga, Reiki, Coaching, and her other passion: Traditional
Chinese Medicine. With just one year left in her Acupuncture studies, she is looking forward to the day she will open her own practice.

In the busyness of daily life, the Yang part of life, Shari is grateful for the Yin-balancing practices she has cultivated. Yoga and meditation serve as powerful and healing tools, gifts she cherishes
and loves to share with others. In her classes, she focuses on embracing the softness and surrender to the Yin qualities of life. Through easy and accessible guidance, she invites you to be
present with anything that comes up, to release what is no longer serving you, all while being gentle towards your body and mind.

Jonas Nathan

Jonas has always been free-spirited, refusing to conform to conventional norms. His life has been a quest for freedom and love.

He studied Visual Arts & Design Management and led an excessive, yang lifestyle. Yet, he knew this wasn’t sustainable and that there was more to life than just being busy and running around from one thing to another. He felt something was missing in maintaining his physical, emotional, and mental health. After hitting rock bottom in 2010, yoga and meditation entered his life, and he knew this was the answer.

Coming from a background in martial arts, Jonas started with dynamic forms of yoga, which served him well at the time. However, he also discovered the magic in slowing down. When he began practicing Yin Yoga, he completely fell in love. This practice provided space for deeper internal work and helped him achieve a calmer, clearer state of self. You could say he found himself there—a state where just being becomes effortless.

Jonas has trained with many teachers, both on and off the mat. His core Yin philosophy follows the Paul Grilley method, and he has completed over 500 hours of Yin training, specializing in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupressure, Myo-Fascial Release, Qigong, Yin Yang, Chakra meditation, and Ayurveda.

To Jonas, yoga is not just a series of postures but an exploration of how to open, stretch, and stimulate the body and mind. In his classes, he provides time and space for you to bring love and kind awareness to the parts that need attention. This is different for everyone, as each person comes to practice with different intentions and motivations. The goal is to harmonize the chi in the body. Jonas believes that we can only truly be happy when we find harmony in both body and mind.

Shari and Jonas crossed hearts during their first yin training. Both went through their own process at the time, and this is the reason most people start Yoga. The love for Yin Yoga created a path and slowly brought them together. Practicing together and studying yin yoga and spirituality became a big part of their day-to-day life. They found each other in a space where they could be themselves and stimulate each other to grow. They strongly believe that a relationship can only work when both are working on themselves. At a certain point, the sun was shining and they welcomed new life into this world, first their daughter Uma and a few years later their son Iggy. Setting an example of how a relationship can be they decided to work together and express their love for Yin Yoga. This is how they gave life to this 200-hour Yin Yoga teacher training.

Curriculum

In this Yin Yoga Teacher Training program, we build a strong understanding of the body by studying the anatomy of the physical body. Next to anatomy, this training illustrates how the meridian system unites all parts of the body into an integrated energetic net of fascia. The chakras are presented as the coordinating centers of the meridian system and as doorways to higher consciousness. With this knowledge, you will be able to create personalized and therapeutic yin yoga classes suited for everyone’s physical and energetic needs.

“The backbone of the yin yoga teacher training is anatomy because, without an understanding of muscles and joints, true confidence in teaching is elusive. This anatomical insight is crucial when dealing with injuries, contraindications, and the logic of adjustments and variations. Anatomy is a vast subject but the basics, properly understood, clarifies and simplifies all yoga practice, regardless of style.” – Paul Grilley
